Title: Neuroprotection through excitability and mTOR required in ALS motoneurons to delay disease and extend survival

Year Published: 2013

Observation: Enhanced exhitability can protect vulnerable alpha MNs. Activation of neuroprotection pathways in fALS motor neurons lead to elevated Brg2, which was restored to nearly normal by AMPA. Altered signaling to CREB in affected fALS mice. mTOR has a neuroprotective role

Comment: Excitability and mTOR are key endogenous neuroprotection mechanisms in motoneurons to counteract clinically important disease progression in ALS.
