So I am testing some things out under FreeBSD but it does not appear like remappings are happening, but detecting which app I am in and keypresses I hit do work. The remap just isn't happening. Any ideas?

Not the only one that has issues using python and uinput on freebsd. If there was an error with a dependency I wish it would have thrown it at me. ("evdev", "python-xlib", "inotify_simple")

There is this page that mentioned an input driver xf86-input-evdev? Perhaps it has to be interacted with? I am not sure.

I am interested on xkeysnail for FreeBSD as well. Is it possible?

This is a known issue and unlikely to be fixed. We've been unable to contact the author and haven't heard from them In some time. You may have better luck with my fork: https://github.com/joshgoebel/keyszer
