This request is related to the need to map P09 parameter codes to P01 concepts. Here is the information we received:

I have a data file with 2 parameters for the Measurements of bacterial production which are expressed in pico mole of leucine incorporated per liter and per hour with the Carbon equivalent (µgC/m3.h)

  1. Bacteria production in /picomole of leucine/l/h   (Does not exit in P09, I should create a code for that *UPLE: Bacteriaproduction (LEUCINE Uptake) => Mapped to which parameter in P01? *I think it should be mapped to LEUCXXXX //which is already mapped to P09 LTUW (see below)

  2. Bacteria production in/µgC/m3/h (existin P09 LTUW mapped to P01 LEUCXXXX)  ==> probably wrong mapping, to which P01 parameter should we map LTUW?

BODC's policy is to avoid adding semnatics to the unit vocabualry (P06). We therefore need to indictae the the rresults is expressed as carbon in the parameter concept and not in the unit concept. Looking at precedents in P01, we have used 2 strategies so far for modelling different ways of reporting results when something is expressed as something else.

We have either added the precision to the "property" measured like in "Concentration as carbon" in S06 used in eg http://vocab.nerc.ac.uk/collection/P01/current/F064GCP3/;

or to the target object such as "triphenyltin (expressed as tin)" in S27 used in eg http://vocab.nerc.ac.uk/collection/P01/current/SDCTM006/

We need to decide which strategy has the most robust logic. Also we need to consider which strategy lead to maximum interoperability with other vocabularies and semantic models.

Personally I would prefer "Uptake rate as carbon" to be defined in S06 and use http://vocab.nerc.ac.uk/collection/S27/current/CS002958/ as the target object.
This is consistent with the modelling we have for eg irradiance as energy or as photons as in eg http://vocab.nerc.ac.uk/collection/P01/current/DWIRRPSD/ and also consistent with the modelling we are proposing for eg #47
