Forgot to Cancel GitHub Copilot: Now Charged for a Second Year #139147
-
Select Topic AreaQuestion BodyHi everyone, Over a year ago, I subscribed to GitHub Copilot with an annual subscription. I decided not to renew it after the first year but forgot to cancel in time. A month after the renewal date, I realized this and canceled my subscription. However, by then, GitHub had already attempted to charge me for the second year. Unfortunately, the credit card I used for payment is now locked, so GitHub keeps trying to charge me, but I can't pay. I'm not sure what to do in this situation. Should I be responsible for paying for the one month I used Copilot after the renewal, or is there another solution? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks! |

It seems like you forgot to cancel your GitHub Copilot subscription and were charged for a second year. This is a common issue many users face. From what I understand, you can try to request a refund. GitHub has a self-serve refund process for GitHub Copilot Individual subscriptions. You can follow the instructions in [5] to request a refund. Additionally, you can also try to cancel your subscription to avoid further charges. You can follow the instructions in [7] to cancel your subscription. If you are still having trouble, you can contact GitHub support for further assistance. Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with. |

Hi @zhangxh1023 ,
In this situation, here's what you can do:
Contact GitHub Support: Reach out to GitHub Support as soon as possible. Explain the situation, including the fact that your card is locked and you didn’t intend to renew the subscription. They may offer a solution, such as a refund for the unused months.
Check the Refund Policy: GitHub Copilot may have a refund policy, especially if the renewal was unintentional and you canceled within a reasonable time frame. Include this in your conversation with support.
Alternative Payment Method: If GitHub Support asks for payment, see if you can provide an alternative payment method for the time that was already used.
