error: failed to push some refs to my repository what can be the prooblem

Running into this myself, and the various suggestions I've found for fixing have been unsuccessful. Here's my full output:

$ git push

Writing objects: 100% (5/5), 5.14 KiB | 2.57 MiB/s, done.

remote: fatal error in commit_refs

 ! [remote rejected] master -> master (failure)
error: failed to push some refs to '[REDACTED]'

Turns out this happens when github has outages, and one is going on right now. It'd be cool if github could show right on their pages when an outage is in progress (full transparency) instead of me having to know to check https://githubstatus.com
