MacOS- SPVs open, but they will not close causing crash

Describe the bug
I have a problem with using Spiers which I hope that you can help me with. I can get SPVs to open, but they will not close - on trying to quit Spiersview the revolving coloured 'wheel of death' appears and the SPV file will not close, unless I use Force quit. I am on Monterey v2.2, the latest operating system.

Update from user on Monterey 12.1: I can open up SPIERS files, but not directly (by simply clicking on the file). I have to open up the SPIERS app and then open up the file from within the app. Works fine. Also I can quit SPIERS files normally, simply by asking to close the file; it does it no problem. But remember I am on Monterey 12.1 (not 12.2, like you).

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

1. Open a .SPV file
2. Close a .SPV file

Expected behavior
Not to crash.
