GRASS 8 has been released in 2022 (most recently 8.2.1 in January 2023) and version 8 has improvements to some of the algorithms that allow more parallelization.
The current bundled version of GRASS that is installed with QGIS is GRASS 7. Are there plans to update the bundled GRASS with QGIS to GRASS 8? Most updated commands in GRASS 8 have added optional parameters so I think the current GRASS provider files are compatible. For example, r.patch has added optional nprocs and mem options for parallelized processing in GRASS 8 so the current grassprovider r.patch.txt is compatible and users can contribute the optional parameters to the txt files going forward.
I saw that there was a proposal to remove GRASS 7 plugin but I am not sure if that affects being able to use GRASS from the toolbox in QGIS (as I usually do).
