As we are developing the core of the book we can still think to the future about sections and ideas we would like to add to the next edition.

The first that come to mind are instrumentation related:

  • DSP sections on poly-phase filter banks, quantization noise, and FX correlators
  • ADC sampling and linearity, cross talk/leakage
  • Overview of aperture arrays and station beamforming (including Jones notation)
  • EM description of primary beams and feeds

Maths:;

  • appendix with proofs of matrix identities

Coordinates (suggested by Landman):

  • describe coordinate transforms with tensor notation
  • relate coordinates with cosmological scale

Compressed Sensing

  • describe deconvolution/CLEAN in terms of compressed sensing
  • explain interferometry in the context of compressed sensing

Beyond single pixel dishes:

  • dish types: offset gregorian, cassegrain
  • aperture arrays, PAFs, multi-feed
  • beamformers
  • transiting arrays

Spectral Line Observations:

  • differences from continuum
  • special issues in imaging and deconvolution
  • calibration issues

Review and update science chapter to reflect lecture (backwards engeneering) (Kshitij and Josh):
Lectures: clarify copyright and potentially replace images (Josh, asking Kshitij for help)
Sect. 1: Include size ladder (starting from small to large objects) and expand on discussion of relevance of astrophysics (Josh, then review by Kshitij)
Sect. 2: Two runs of review, expand a bit (priority 2: find alternative proof of distance independence of intensity) (Kshitij, then Josh)
Sect. 3: Review, add viewgraph(s) (Kshitij, then Josh)
Sect. 4: Review and include more pictures (synchronize with lecture), check if main goal (radio astronomy is needed) comes across (Josh)
Sect. 5: Include examples for astronomical sources (Kshitij)
Sect 5 1/2: Add Bremsstrahlung (Kshitij)
Sect. 6: Review, include synchrotron from star forming regions (Josh)
Sect. 6 1/2: Include inverse Compton and Sunyaev-Zeldovich effect(s) (Kshitij, review by Josh)
Sect. 7: Include recombination lines and molecular lines, expand on HI (MW, galaxy kinematics and dynamics, EOR)
Sect. 8: Not clear yet. Rough plan add 1 picture and 2 sentences per source describing nature and observations of source, add link if appropriate (Josh+Kshitij)

More examples with different arrays:

in the deconvolution chapter I would add the Regularized Maximum Likelihood (RML) Methods, or maybe adding a chapter "Radio astronomy as an inverse problem" before compressed sensing.
