This is obviously long overdue ... thanks for suggesting it and reminding me of that ... I will try to use it in the soon (or not so soon ;-) future ...

You have already begin to add ;)

sudo apt-get build-dep scilab should help you for dependencies and install xfvb to run with gui

Thanks for these hints, especially sudo apt-get build-dep scilab seems handy ... again thanks a lot ...
