Hi,

I want to be able to instruct Renovate to identify and suggest updates of Helm chart versions for 3rd party charts in different public repositories, based on a Helm values file that contains these elements:

  ingress-nginx:
    enabled: true
    chart:
      repoUrl: https://kubernetes.github.io/ingress-nginx
      name: ingress-nginx
      version: 4.11.1
  external-dns:
    enabled: true
    chart:
      repoUrl: https://charts.bitnami.com/bitnami
      name: external-dns
      version: 6.35.0

Note that, since this is YAML, there is no guarantee that the child variables of chart comes in any particular order.
Is a "custom manager" of type "regex" my only possibility for this? Or are there other alternatives available that I haven't found yet?

Are you doing something non-standard that leads you to think regex is necessary?

Yeah, well, specifying charts like this in a value file is indeed arbitrary/non-standard and I assume Renovate won't be able to figure it out without telling it where to look and what to look for. These values are used to populate a set of ArgoCD Application manifests where Helm repository URL, chart name and versions needs to be specified in order for ArgoCD to know what chart to use.

Gotcha, I didn't realize it was non-standard syntax. If you have non-standard syntax then yes you do need custom managers. If you have no other way to deterministically order your keys then maybe matchStringsStrategy=combination might solve that

This looks an awful lot like what I'm trying to achieve here: #30683

Perhaps we can look at this together, as I haven't got it working yet.
