Problem with new tab.

Here I experienced a problem where when a new tab was opened ctrl + a only displayed an empty blank. The settings in Firefox only provide something like this:

$ firefox --version
Mozilla Firefox 121.0

I found a solution (though haven't tried it yet) on this link, custom url new tab?. However, adding addons has not been a solution for me this time.
