What's new - Sidekick product updates September 2022

In September Sidekick has improved its data redaction capabilities and extended its compatibility with m1 support & PyCharm plugin.

News and improvements:

• We have open-sourced Sidekick Live Debugger a few weeks ago and now we have open-sourced all our agents too. Read on!

• Python lovers rejoice! We have 2 great news for the Python community:

  • Sidekick Python Agents now support arm-based (like m1) architectures (Node.js & Java agents are arch-independent)

  • Our PyCharm Plugin is released. Now you can live debug your applications without leaving your favorite IDE!

- Security & privacy

Security and privacy are among our top priorities at Sidekick. That's why we have decided to improve our abilities data redaction abilities. As of this month, all our agents let you define custom data redaction functions, allowing you to control all Sidekick data sent from your applications.

- One more thing... Introducing Saved Points & Reference Events

Sidekick Actions are temporary by default. This behavior is not enough for cases like where you a developer wants to collect data from the same point over time to observe behavioral differences.

Sidekick now allows you to define Predefined Points, which are tracepoints and logpoints that do not have a time limit, so they are not deleted automatically. This allows you to define a point once and enable it anytime you need it, no need to put a new point each and every time.

The saved points feature also lets you define reference events for each point allowing you to compare your collected events with the expected values, all inside Sidekick Web IDE.

• Sidekick Automatic Error Stack Capturing has already arrived for Node.js and will be here soon for both Java & Python. Error snapshots are visible in our Visual Studio Code and they are arriving at our Web IDE this week.

• Saved points will soon start to live with your code, updating their location based on your code changes.

• Saved points' reference events are great for keeping your expected results, soon our Cypress Integration will let you use your reference events for tests. Pinpoint your behavioural changes faster than ever.
