Not that I'm a mousy point and click hater, but for the love of the internet going to the next slide should be as simple as:
(back)←→(next) or vica versa depending on preferred orientation.
↑ (main index)
↓ (fill the current slide to completion)
Or even just ▭ (space bar) to iter next.
Also, if you would go through all that work, I'd recommend making a pdf (or even SPA because why not? version also available.
Look forward to going through these; maybe with help from some suitably demonstrative Ailustrator could make many more possibilities (particularly if ironically well trained).
