Currently it's too easy to DDoS or even DoS the public API. For the mainnet we for now decided to shut down the APIs. Smapp will have also deleted the wallet only mode for now.

We need to work on API and make it safe to use.

I strongly support this approach, because there are only so many nodes on the main network, and malicious attacks must be defended

We're working on the new redesigned API called API v2 spacemeshos/api#295
currently it's available under v2alpha1 namespace.

mainnet-api.spacemesh.network is currently available with v2alpha json-rpc available.
