XML to array

I suspect I am missing something obvious seeing as I thought there would be others asking about this feature...

I really like the Spatie conventions used to convert array to XML (eg. _attributes, _cdata, __custom, etc)

I am looking to do the reverse conversion - so convert raw XML to PHP array but maintaining the attributes and cdata.

Maybe this exists, or maybe it's a case of feel free to write your own package. Or maybe everyone is just happy with a SimpleXMLElement object 😁
