  • Assuming the initial release of Thunderbird for Android is actually 8.0 as per K-9. Please let us know if this changes.
  • SUMO KB Article is live: Thunderbird for Android 8 FAQ

Checklist

  • gmail issue for some folks, see Google Advanced Protection Support thunderbird-android#7303 and Unable to login to a Google account thunderbird-android#8598
  • add FAQ about Exchange
  • If I want to become a beta tester, do I have to download a different app? (Yes), If I am using K-9 right now, will it automatically become Thunderbird for Android, or do I have to download a different app? (Download app)
  • Add FAQ about Calendar (get approval for language first from Philipp); something like "Native Thunderbird calendar is not on the near term roadmap, but will be evaluated for the future."
  • Potential Roadmap-ish FAQ? “The focus for 2025 will be on productivity and ways we can make it easy for people to manage their busy days between mobile and desktop. More planning information will be posted in the future.”
  • 8.2 "two letter" email account improvements, tentatively will ship in December

Re Sync, people don't know they are missing this yet, so I don't think it would be frequently asked just yet. The K-9 FAQ items might be different pages, but I suspect that is what you had planned.

Some random questions

  • If I want to become a beta testers, do I have to download a different app? (Yes)
  • If I am using K-9 right now, will it automatically become Thunderbird for Android, or do I have to download a different app? (Download app)
  • Same question as prior, but for beta.

We could include a question like "Can I synchronize my settings between Thunderbird on the desktop and on Android?" and pint them to cross-device import: #5

I imagine 'does Thunderbird for Android support Exchange' will be a frequently asked question - see the search for Exchange on the K-9 Mail forum. There is no built in support for Exchange in TfA, and the Owl Plugin, which enables it in desktop, doesn't work for Android.

Are there any action items left on this one? There are a few things I think we could evolve, but it seems more like on going work.

  • WIP revision 289023 for see Google Advanced Protection Support thunderbird-android#7303 and Unable to login to a Google account thunderbird-android#8598: @kewisch wrote: I think we should now add an FAQ item that says we’re working on it with Google, and suggest to users to try K-9 Mail or Thunderbird for Android, which ever one they are not currently using. Another path may be logging in on Thunderbird Desktop, and then afterwards trying to log in on Thunderbird for Android. ...Also note that if their workspace has Google Advanced Protection enabled, the only workaround is to disable it. We’re looking to become part of this program but there is no ETA.... maybe also tell people to reach out to their workspace admin if they are getting the admin_policy_enforced message:
  • revision 289024: removed detailed steps, fixed typos as per Philipp's feedback
