How to prevent Tina CMS converting Markdown list items to asterisk/star notation?

E.g. For consistency, I want to preserve a Markdown list in the form:

- item 1

But Tina CMS converts lists into the harder-to-type form with asterisks, making the page edited in Tina CMS have inconsistent Markdown notation with the rest of the pages in the site:
