In this example, the Complete Columnar solver is unable to solve the cipher, but does not throw an error as it usually does, which is new behavior for me.

Quote: Consider the Lichen. Lichens are just about the hardiest visible organisms on Earth, but the least ambitious.
Columns: 10
Ordering: 4567544889 (generated with the Random button, but might matter here)
Crib: VISIBLE

Edited to add: I find the problem persists if I choose the crib HARDIEST.
Edited again: For both the cribs above, it does say at the end it does not have any valid column orderings, it just does not throw a pink error as it does with other cribs I use. Note, though, that if I try the crib AREJUST, it does not even get that far and stops in the middle of its work, also not putting any error message.

  • I'm glad it still throws down the table with 10 columns. Sometimes if the auto-solver can't solve it, I look at the table and decide if there are enough Xes that it's still very solvable by students. In this case, I am going to choose another crib.
