panic: x Configuring database... FAILED during installation

I tried installing this on Windows 10 Ubuntu WSL, but encountered an error at the database install step. Are there any diagnostic logs I can look at? I checked ~/.steampipe/db/12.1.0/logs with not much success.

Hey @michaelsew ... thanks for trying steampipe! Sorry that we panic'ed in excitement :-)

Steampipe will try to install our embedded postgres the first time you try to use it. I believe that Configuring database... was taking that action. It appears to have failed from there though.

A few follow up questions:

• Which version did you try? Was it 0.2.2?
• Did it appear to wait a long time before failing? (i.e. trying to connect, but couldn't?)
• If you try running the command steampipe plugin install steampipe again does it fail the same way?
• If you delete your whole ~/.steampipe directory and try again, do you see the same failure?
• If you want a flood of log data, you can try setting the env var export STEAMPIPE_LOG=trace and try again.

Any info you can provide would be appreciated. In the meantime, we'll try to catch the error instead of panic'ing.

I have it hanging at configuring database and nothing happening. it was sitting there for entire night and i have to cancel it. I tried delete whole ~/.steampipe directory and install again and same thing happening. I am on windows 2019 server WSL and ubuntu.

Same issue on my side. Process is lock on "Configuring database...".

Try upgrading your WSL to version 2. That fixed it for me.
