This could be useful to have as certain entry types currently get mapped to misc/document which loses a lot of formatting.
Lots of CSL styles can handle these extra types, e.g., the IEEE CSL style has custom rules for motion_picture which only LaTeX (presumably through biber or citeproc) correctly maps from the non-standard @video type.
