ExtendedSplashScreen not appearing

I am doing a bit of startup work on my app that takes a bit of time.
This causes the app to go black for a few seconds after the splashscreen until the default page appears a while later.
Is there any way i can keep the splashscreen up or load an empty dummy page to to avoid this? Perhaps an event that notifies the framework when the splashscreen should disappear?

I tried to use a fake ILoadable that executes indefinitely to create a page that displays the splashscreen indefinitely, but it deosn't seem to work.
Yes, OnLaunched immediately calls the Window setup routine which is virtually the same that was used in older Uno project templates. I can now see the DataTemplate's content (InitializeComponent was called too late earlier) but still no sign of the splashscreen, neither when calling the Page on launch nor when rendering it on an already launched app (if that even works). It also appears that the page displayed at launch is frozen in it's initial visual state. Animations or any other UI updates are not visible. A PeriodicTimer could confirm that the code-behind runs as expected but UI updates are just ignored. Not sure whether this is even related, I spent the better half of today trying to get behind either of these issues.

I have uploaded a sample inspired by this blog post from some random guy ;)

Basically, you can define all of your async loading logic in the App.xaml.cs and pass the work to an ILoadable which will be set as the Source for your main Shell that hosts your Frame. There is some logic in the Shell to listen until the ILoadable has finished executing and then will navigate to your first page.

While the ILoadable is executing, the LoadingContent of the ExtendedSplashScreen will be shown. Once the execution has finished, the ExtendedSplashScreen's Content will be displayed, which is the main Frame of the app.
