Dispatch event to previous modal not working

When dispatching an event to the previous modal, nothing happens.

#[On('newTrainerCreated')]
public function updateTrainerSelect()
{
    dd('Hey');
}

I have tried:

$this->dispatch('newTrainerCreated');
$this->closeModal();

$this->closeModalWithEvents([
    'newTrainerCreated'
]);

$this->closeModalWithEvents([
    TrainersModal::class => 'newTrainerCreated'
]);
