It is not.
Describe the solution you'd like
Now that Google News has "updated" its app to add two "material design" widgets and delete the one that was actually useful, I've had to dispose of that garbage. While looking for a solution, I found Handy, which doesn't have a solution at this time but looks like a lovely project based on a reader I loved with an author who is actively developing it. In my ideal widget:
I could pick what feeds the widget would pull headlines from,
The widget would scroll through new stories that are pulled from my selected feeds at intervals I specify,
When I click on a story, there would be a setting that allows me to set whether it opens in Handy or my web browser.
If you really wanted to be fancy, allowing me to set it up to say "I want the newest 3 stories from this feed to scroll through the widget, the newest 1 story from this feed, the newest 6 stories from this feed, etc."
Describe alternatives you've considered
I've looked at every RSS reader on Google Play that I could. For some reason, useful widgets are not a popular thing it seems. Or maybe everyone just uses the easy, preinstalled Google News one that has now been ruined.
The text was updated successfully, but these errors were encountered:
Personally, I'd like to have article headlines in the notification shade once they are downloaded and clicking on that specific notification opens Handy to that specific article.
Edit: and in the app specify what article groups i'd want handy to show in the notifications if possible.
