It looks like net-snmp won't let you mix philosophies when specifying an OID. So - you can specify an oid numerically (.1.2.3......) but if you do so you cannot also include quoted subidentifiers.

As mib2zabbix' approach is to render numeric oids, a solution might be to attempt to translate the bytes of the string to ascii equivalents directly, rather than expecting the snmp stack to do it for you?

(and I have this sneaking feeling that's not ascii)

Or is this actually more of a problem with zabbix snmp lld?
