Transparency
Transparency support with Diskette can be a bit of effort & have quite a bit of caveats. I feel it's important for me to show you the cons of this feature before jumping right in.
One of the defining aesthetics of this theme is the little fancy headers that accompany almost every window.
We can achieve this look rather easily.
This inserts a block of text into the defined element, and adds a background to it with a variable that is the same color as the theme's background. This gives the illusion of the border being interrupted.
So with all of this in mind, using the text headers is impossible with the way I have things set up. They need to be disabled if you want to use transparency.
There are many different use cases I have to accommodate for, and many different operating systems I have to keep in mind.
I personally use Windows (11), I do not own a Mac and I do not use any Linux distributions. Feel free to contribute to this article if you would like to help in those areas.
From here on out, this is what I can personally advise with.
From your Discord client mod of choice, open your Diskette.theme.css file in your text editor of choice.
We are going to navigate to these two lines here. Color Schemes & Fancy Window Title Headers.
- Color Schemes: Rename that last word (before .css) to "Trans".
- Fancy Window Title Headers: Break the URL, or remove it entirely.
I'm using Vencord, so I'm going to show you how to do this on Vencord and Vesktop.
Go to User Settings > Vencord > Vencord > Enable window transparency. Enable this.
- After enabling, completely restart the Discord client.
HOLY SHIT HATSUNE MIKU HOW DID YOU GET TH-- oh that's just my wallpaper, oops.
BUT VOZYYYYY, HOW DO I MAKE IT ALL LIKE, GLASSY? FROSTED GLASS. I NEED THAT FROSTED GLASS. GIMMMEEE...
Yeah aight this is actually a lot easier than you thought. It's gonna involve installing another program though, so if you're 14 years old and still using the family computer, I'm sorry bestie </3.
MicaForEveryone is a program that allows you to customize the translucency background effects on a "Global" or "Process-by-Process" basis. It's completely open source (MIT) and free to install.
Once you have that program installed, open it up, and navigate to the bottom left sidebar.
Press the "+" button, then "Add Process Rule", and type "Discord".
With your newly added "Discord" tab on the sidebar, open this tab, and then choose a Backdrop Type. We're going to be using Acrylic. Feel free to try others, I haven't.
After Restarting your Discord client, you should no longer see Hatsune Miku, if Hatsune Miku is your wallpaper, I mean.
You should not need MicaForEveryone for Translucency on Vesktop.
Go to User Settings > Vencord > Vesktop Settings > Transparency Options > Enable window transparency. Enable one of these. Again, I'm using Acrylic. Feel try the other options.
After Relaunching Vesktop, Hatsune Miku should show up. Forever. RAWR.
