Become a sponsor to CHAYN
Chayn helps women experiencing abuse find the right information and support they need to take control of their lives.
We are an award-winning, open-source project run by volunteers and survivors from all over the world. Our resources are openly-licensed, multi-lingual and intersectional - so charities around the world can use, remix and distribute our work!
We organise on gender-based violence, specifically:
✊🏿ending domestic abuse
👊🏽tackling tech-facilitated harassment and stalking
💪🏻tackling sexual assault
Our feminism is intersectional and we believe in creating an open culture of collaboration in both the tech for good and women's rights sector - redistributing power dynamics for a fairer world.
Since 2013, we've reached more than 500,000 people across the world. See our impact reports! Most of this has been powered by volunteer hours and a few grants here and there.
✨ What do we create?
1. Digital services:
Our ambitious move to plugging the digital services gap in an environment where charity funding is being cut down. We have recently built Bloom, a remote trauma support service, offering video courses and reflective webchat that combine the insights of survivors globally with therapeutic practices to support survivors in healing from trauma. We have also in the past built Soul Medicine a micro-course platform where users can choose to access the courses online or via email. Topics can range from things like "How to open a bank account" to "How to build a domestic abuse case without a lawyer".
2. How To Guides:
Easy to follow crowdsourced guides in multiple languages such as How to Build Your Own Domestic Violence Case Without A Lawyer, DIY Online Safety and Getting Better & Moving On.
3. Country or theme-specific platforms:
Putting local information & support at the fingertips of survivors such as Chayn Italia/India/Pakistan and the Supernova Project, addressing abuse within the LGBTQIA+ communities*.
💕 How we work
We work remotely and have documented our practices here.
👋 Meet the team
We're a volunteer-run project but when we get grants, we work with contractors for tech development, UX and design. A remote team means it's hard to get a lot of us in one place but a few of us are in the UK. We could post so many pictures of our team in Italy, US, Pakistan, India but there's not enough space. We've sneaked in a cute picture for you from our last event in London.
🙏 Rewards and thanks:
We really appreciate your support as we want to move away from being solely reliant on volunteer hours and grant money. We want Chayn to keep going because the work that we do changes the lives of those who feel helpless and alone. One drawback of being volunteer-run means we can't offer regular rewards because it's hard to guarantee consistency due to varying volunteer commitments so we've come up with creative alternatives! We hope you like them.
