Instructions for Microsoft Windows

  1. Download the FRETCalc-Windows.tar.gz file.

  2. Extract the .tar.gz file contents to a preferred directory (e. g. Desktop).

  3. Double click in the .exe file and click on Yes.

  4. Wait for the graphical interface to load (~ 30 seconds).

  5. Provide the necessary files:

    Input file (.xlsx)
    Emission file (.dat)
    Refractive index file (.dat)
    Extinction coefficient file (.dat)

  6. Click to calculate.

  7. Choose the output directory.

  8. Done! The software now returns the FRET rate on screen and asks for a preferred location to save a folder with additional data.

Instructions for Unix operating systems

  1. Download the FRETCalc-Unix.tar.gz file.

  2. Extract the file contents to a preferred directory (e.g. Downloads).

  3. In the new folder, double click the FRETCalc file (If it is necessary to turn the FRETCalc file into an executable, we recommend opening the terminal in the directory where the FRETCalc file is located and using chmod +x FRETCalc).

  4. Wait for the graphical interface to load (~ 30 seconds).

  5. Provide the necessary files:

    Input file (.xlsx)
    Emission file (.dat)
    Refractive index file (.dat)
    Extinction coefficient file (.dat)

  6. Click to calculate.

  7. Choose output directory.

  8. Done! The software now returns the FRET rate on screen and asks for a preferred location to save a folder with additional data.

Instructions for Apple Mac OS

  1. Download the FRETCalc-MacOS.tar.gz file.

  2. Extract the .tar.gz file contents to a preferred directory (e. g. Desktop).

  3. Double click the .dmg file.

  4. Allow unknown developers in System Preferences.

  5. Double click the executable.

  6. Wait for the graphical interface to load (~ 30 seconds).

  7. Provide the necessary files:

    Input file (.xlsx)
    Emission file (.dat)
    Refractive index file (.dat)
    Extinction coefficient file (.dat)

  8. Click to calculate.

  9. Choose the output directory.

  10. Done! The software now returns the FRET rate on screen and asks for a preferred location to save a folder with additional data.
