  • Previous versions of this SmartApp required port forwarding to expose your RainMachine device to the Internet so the SmartThings servers could access it. In the latest version of the SmartApp, this is no longer necessary. All traffic is routed between your SmartThings hub and Rainmachine device through your local network!

  • SmartThings can't handle SSL for now. This means the hub can't connect to your Rainmachine HTTPS URL. In the setup process, you'll need to make sure and enter in the HTTP port, which should be either 80 or 18080 (for the mini-8). This shouldn't be a problem as the Rainmachine devices do allow access via HTTP as long as it's over your local network.

  • Sometimes the SmartThings phone app doesn't immediately show the correct status of a zone or program, especially if you manually turned it on or off. This is typically remedied within a few minutes once the SmartApp polls the Rainmachine device and updates the status from there.
