• Fixed a couple of typos noticed on the first and last pages of the main text

• Fixing issues with \unit already being defined and an issue where I used \si{\micro}. I guess an update to the siunitx package broke a couple of things

Final version

Going to assume this is the final version of the thesis, post-corrections, unless informed otherwise.

Addressing comments on second version sent to examiner

• Adding correlation plots for min_omega_tilde and min_dphi vs MET with some discussion
• Adding a paragraph about how CRs are represenatative of backgrounds and kinematics of SR
• Shifting location and sizing of some plots in Hinv categorisation, background estimation, and corrections to simulation sections so that things flow reasonably well after adding the above material

Second version of corrected thesis for examiner

• Enlarging several plots and increasing label and/or legend sizes
• Adding p-values from background-only fit to ttH and VH Run-2
• Changing appropriate instances of "Chpt." and "App." to "Sec." when referring to a section that's one or more levels deeper than the actual chapter
• Clarifying things in a couple of sentences for Higgs mechanism

Fixes for TeXLive 2021

TeXLive 2021 has just been released (and is pulled by default in the CI pipeline). Only notable differences I can see are the occasional hyphenation changes, and differences in vertical whitespace between figures and their captions. The latter change screwed up my figure placement of the JEC response curves in the detector chapter, padding things too much and creating an unnecessary extra 2 pages in the document. So I updated TeXLive on my Mac to tinker with the figure sizes (and also found I could trim some whitespace in the figure pdfs themselves) and fixed the issue

Implemented examiners' corrections, sent to internal

Implemented majority of corrections from both internal and external examiners, including the larger ones. Sending this version to internal examiner to review.

Indentation fixes

If leaving a blank line between the end of an equation and the following text (e.g., for better legibility of the source), LaTeX thinks the text is a new paragraph and idents the first line. Blank lines now removed so text following an equation isn't indented

Fixing a bunch of typos

Read through the entire thesis carefully in preparation for the viva. Found and fixed a bunch of typos and poorly constructed sentences. Adjusted the odd figure size and location to help with flow and whitespace
