###What is Peepol.tv ?###

Peepol.tv is a global live-streaming network, that aims to connect millions of people that today hold in their hands enough mobile technology power to be the eyes and witness of a global scale live-tv, the people’s tv.

Thousands of events happen each day, that we don’t get the chance to see or share, and even if we do, we usually take a while to post or find relevant video content. With peepol.tv you don’t “miss the action”, you get to find and see live-stream content when you need it, when things are actually happening. With Peepol.tv its easy to post and find live content. Every stream is georeferenced in a map and properly tagged. You just need to search the map, use the filters, or follow someone's live-streams, to find what you are looking for.

If you want to see live what is happening inside a concert; if you are following a protest or a revolution and want to see what is happening in the eyes of real people that are being part of it; or even if you are stuck in the road and want to find out what’s going on !, you just need to go to Peepol.tv, search the map and eventually find out about the car crash that is only a couple of miles in front of you!

Millions of events happen in the world in real time that don’t make it to the screen. In the past, editors and commercially-tide editorials, decided what you could see live, and what you couldn’t. The choice is now yours to make. Peepol.tv is a free and open space platform where real people connect through live-stream content; both those who want to share, and those who want to see. We will keep it free, no editors, no adverts, no interests, this is a platorm only powered by you, and me, this is Peepol.tv

###Join our Hackathons###

Peepol.tv is an open source platform that aims to democratize access to live content. We invite all developers interested in building open tools for broadcasting live video and/or distributed recording of such video as evidence, to join the Peepol.tv dev-community. We aim to develop open costumized streaming channels, APIs, P2P connections, among other developments. Join in our mailing list to keep you posted, or directly join in our hackathons.

Our next Hackathon will be held in NYC. Date: Friday 5th of October

##System diagram##

Jeff: I put together a system diagram which distinguishes between the code which it's practical to roll your own vs. stuff which we'd be running at a centralized Peepol.tv website. All would be open source, of course... but the former (shown in green boxes) are the parts I expect the open source community to be most interested in.
