DarkThumbs V2.0
Feature and bugfix release! Marked as "V2.0" because 7-zip is the new archive engine.
New file formats supported!
- 7z / cb7
- djvu
Issues addressed:
- #90 : zip files larger than 2G supported
- #33 : some zip files weren't working with Unzip
- #35 : "version is blocked" message when trying to install new version. Note: I still recommend the uninstall / install for preference, as a "replacement" install appears to require a Windows restart!
Known Limitation!
Currently requires being installed in "C:\Program Files\DarkThumbs" folder! If you want to install in a different location, you must copy 7z.dll from the install folder into "C:\Windows\System32".
DarkThumbs V1.9
Bug fixes update. Fixes the following:
- Issues #82, #83 : allow heic, heif, avif or jxl images [requires WIC codecs]
- Issue #87 : if selected, show the archive icon for CBR/RAR files
- Issue #85 : never show the archive icon for MOBI files
- Issue #86: use WIC for MOBI files to support more image formats
- Issue #71: more intelligent drawing of the archive icon
Enjoy!
DarkThumbs V1.8
Address several issues:
- Issue #76 : make sure the version numbers are consistent
- Issue #78 : fix problems with file sorting ("0.jpg" should be used instead of "1.jpg")
- Issue #79 : Upgrade to the latest RAR code to handle WinRAR5 format.
Also includes a fix for problems handling some image formats (e.g. WEBP) within a RAR/CBR file.
DarkThumbs V1.7
-
For archives (not ebooks): Add the option to skip "scanlation" files and seek "cover" files (see issue #43). "scanlation" files are often added to manga archives by "scanlation" groups, and the names often includes "credits", "recruit", "logo" and others.
-
Rework the manager. Addresses issue #66, adds the scanlation/cover options, and now uses tooltips for explanation of the advanced options:
DarkThumbs V1.6
A minor release, to fix some small issues and add some small features.
- FB2 / Mobi options are now dis-entangled (Issue #59)
- Support SOLID .rar archives (Issue #30)
- Remove the context-sensitive help support from the manager (Issue #28)
- For ZIP / CBZ / EPUB, use the latest Windows graphics for thumbnails [supports more image formats if the necessary windows codecs are installed].
DarkThumbs V1.5.1 - Fix installer, archive marker
Fixes a problem with the installer whereby DarkThumbs ... wouldn't work!
Also restores the "Show archive icon" and corrects the version value.
Reminder: .mobi support is not included in the 32-bit version.
Reminder: to upgrade DarkThumbs, you must first uninstall the existing version via "Add / Remove Programs".
If you find DarkThumbs useful, please consider buying me a coffee!
Special thanks to @vivadavid and @dudelstein for trying V1.5 and pointing out my bugs!
DarkThumbs V1.4.2
Fixes issue #42, where Windows Explorer would "freeze" at some point after thumbnails had been created.
The installer includes a new dependency, vcruntime140_1.dll, which doesn't seem to be installed by Microsoft's runtime package.
NOTE: at this time, the 32-bit (x86) version does not include MOBI support!
DarkThumbs V1.4.1 - Logging
This is the V1.4.1 release but with logging added. It might be helpful when trying to identify problem files.
To install it,
- If you haven't already, download and install DarkThumbs V1.4.1.
- Make a copy of CBXShell.dll which you installed (e.g. in c:\program files\DarkThumbs).
- Download the attached CBXShell.dll. Copy it over the existing CBXShell.dll.
To view the log messages, you need to use the attached DebugView program, dbgview64. [You can download the full package from Microsoft].
My recommended steps would be:
A. Close all Windows Explorer windows.
B. Wipe the thumbnail cache using Disk Cleanup.
C. Run dbgview64.
D. Open a Windows Explorer window and set the view to show icons. Navigate to folders containing books.
DarkThumbs should show a message for each book examined but logs nothing extra on success. On failure or exception, a message should appear.
You can click on the message(s) in dbgview to copy them with Ctrl+C. Ctrl+X clears everything.
