Additional information
The term "fibrillar collagen" describes a group of collagens (type I, II, III, V, XI, XXIV, XXVIII) found in the interstitial matrix and that assemble to form fibrils and then larger diameter fibers. The term "banded collagen fibril" describes the characteristic banding pattern of fibrillar collagens when viewed under electron microscopy. Fibrillar collagen is thus a more appropriated nomenclature.
