Norfolk.js Wearables Workshop

Wearable Electronics Workshop for kids/adults based on the Adafruit Gemma tutorials and the Jewelbots Wearables Workshop.

You will need a computer with the Arduino IDE installed.

• Adafruit Gemma Starter Kit - You can buy this as a kit or the pieces individually
• Fabric or Clothing Item
• Washable Fabric Marker or Fabric Chalk
• Sewing Thread
• Pins
• Scissors
• Hand Sewing Needles
• Seam Ripper
• Clear Nail Polish
• Pen/Paper for Drawing Circuits
• Batteries
• Micro-USB Cable for Gemma Board

Optional Supplies

• Fine Conductive Thread - Compatible with most sewing machines
• Color Sequins
• Alligator Clips
• Conductive Paint Pen

Code Your Microcontroller

• Open the sample code in the Arduino IDE
• Select "Arduino Gemma" from the Tools/Board Menu
• Select USBtinyISP from the Tools/Programmer
• Plug in the Gemma and look for a green light to show that it has power
• For computers running Windows, you must install the USBtiny drivers
• Press the button on the Gemma/Trinket until you see the red LED pulse (ready to receive data)
• Click the upload button in the Arduino IDE within 10 seconds to upload the sketch to the Gemma
