About the functionality
As you'll see, W4P isn't just a random copy of Kickstarter or other known crowdfunding platforms. We wanted to combine the recognisability with the stripped down functionality can would be easily copied across other servers, while adding additional functionalities as well. Because one crowdsourcing project is never the other.
#Only one project at a time is allowed. What? Only one? Yes, and we have good reasons for that. Competitor analysis showed that smaller platforms in Belgium (where we are based and active) that are focussed on social innovation only have an average of two projects running at the same time. This because it is:
- Very hard to support multiple projects. Even when you only have one project live, this means you're prepping other projects behind-the-scenes, whilst providing aftercare and assistance to completed crowdsourcing projects. This quickly takes up a lot of manpower, so one project at a time keep that in check!
- It's easier to communicate about one project. If you're a city of foundation or a community group with lots of ideas you can feature the active project each month in your promotional newsletter, magazine or on your website. No need for your target group to browse around trying to find the perfect project to support. You curate that for them.
And 3. Most importantly, scalability should not be a problem. If you're finding that you have more people with project asking for a crowdsourcing page than you can handle. Why not setup a second instance? Maybe you've found out that your community likes a particular theme such as cityfarming, so you can setup an instance that focusses exactly on that theme. Amazing right?
This is also great for big companies, where compartmentalization is still an issue. Now you can setup a specific crowdsourcing platform when you feel the need is big enough in your community.
