XIOS Overview

XIOS is used as a parallel input/output controller for use with NEMO and other models. It utilises an external XML file parsed at runtime, which avoids the need for recompiling when making changes.

Model versions from NEMO4 onwards require XIOS2.0+, which makes some changes incompatible with older versions. This guide is a brief overview of how to use XIOS with NEMO, noting some of the key changes from v1 to v2. Whilst the focus is on NEMO, most of the information here is transferable to other models.
