The river is not longer a river, its now called importer and its a command line tool.
The reason is that river are deprecated since Elasticsearch 1.5 and will be completely removed in Elasticsearch 2.0.

The logic itself has not changed so it should be as stable as the last river release. But despite of this its although denoted to be beta because its now living on the command line and no longer within ES (as a river/plugin)
