I’m not sure if RSSMenu can fix this, but I’m throwing it out there.
The workflow in Safari 8 has gotten quite odd. After selecting the feed from the context menu off the toolbar icon, Safari presents an “Add (description) to Shared links” dialog. If you click Add Safari adds the RSS feed to its own subscription, and never calls the outside application to load the feed URL. If you click Cancel, Safari dismisses the dialog, and calls the outside application to load the feed URL.
Perhaps this merits a Radar or can be worked around somehow?

Thanks for the report, I'll have a look... I've just recently started a re-write with the intention of adding a Yosemite makeover and a few feature requests along the way, but I hadn't actually got around to checking whether it still worked in Safari 8 as I'm still on Mavericks on my development machine :/
