Scene Builder
Scene builder is a Virtual Table Top made specifically for playing Fate roleplaying games. You can use the characters and adversaries that you already created right here on FateSheetSheet.com. View the Scene Builder Demo.
This feature requires a modern internet browser (Chromium browsers [Chrome, Edge, etc] and Firefox) and requires a subscription. Players who join your scene online do not need a subscription to play.
Scene builder supports the following features:
- Import characters and adversaries and create ad-hoc NPCs
- Invite other players to play online with you in your scene
- Send rolls, invoke aspects, and use your stunts and extras right from your character sheet to scene builder chat
- Communicate with other players via chat, audio, and video.
- Audio/Video communications require a computer with a camera and microphone.
The owner of a scene can begin an online game by clicking the "Start Game" button. The chat log will prompt you when the game is launched and let you know that it is "waiting for players...". Once the server has initialized, the scene owner and players should click the "Join Game" button and you will be logged in. The browser will prompt you to allow our website to use your Camera and Microphone.
Once you've connected, share the URL to this scene with your players. A player can navigate to the scene in their browser and then click the "Join Game" button.
- Scene Owner - Launch the game by clicking the "Start Game Button"
- All players - Click the "Join Game" button (including the Scene Owner)
The settings panel will allow you to update your user name. You can also enable/disable using audio and video as well as choose the devices for audio and video. After making changes in your settings you will need to exit the game and join it again for these changes to take effect.

Adding a zone creates an empty zone in the scene. Removing a zone will delete any objects that are in that zone.
You can move a zone by grabbing the drag handle, located in the upper left corner, and dragging the zone to where you'd like. Clicking the drag handle will also engage resize mode. You'll see small, square indicators around the zone that you can grab and drag to resize the zone.
A zone object is anything that exists in a zone. This can be a character, adversary, or NPC.

When adding Characters and Adversaries, you choose from things that have already been created on FateCharacterSheet.com and they are imported to the table. Modifying items on the table (or removing them from the table) does not affect the original object. Removing any object from the table will cause you to lose any modifications that you've made to the object since adding it to the table. Delete with caution!.
If an object is behind another thing, click anywhere on that object to bring it to the front.
- Our connections use WebRTC via your browser to make Peer to Peer connections. If your browser does not support WebRTC then you will not be able to use the online gaming functionality.
- If a player has trouble connecting, make sure the game server is still running, then the player should refresh their browser and try using the "Join Game" button again.
- If the game server disconnects, everyone should refresh their browser and join the game again starting with the game host (the person who owns the scene). Once the host has started the game server and logged in, then everyone should refresh and join the game.
- Each time the game launches it gains a new random Id and the players need to refresh to get the new id from the scene, so it's important that they refresh AFTER the game server has started up.
- If the host disconnects, but the game server still appears to be running, try just hitting the "Join Game" button again. If that doesn't work, you'll need to perform the steps above with restarting the game server and having everyone join the game again.

Q. When I'm playing a character from the VTT, I can't save it.
- A. Make sure that you are the owner of the character. You cannot save characters that you did not create on your own account.
-
Q. The buttons don't show up for rolling my skills to the Scene Builder chat.
- A. Make sure you launch the character sheet from the Scene Builder scene itself by clicking on the Play Character button located in the lower section of the left gray bar on your character.
-
Q. I'm clicking the blue buttons on my character sheet, but they are not sending it to the Scene Builder chat.
- A. Make sure that the game is running. Try closing your character sheet and re-opening it using the Play Character link from the Scene.
- A. For fields like consequences, skills, and approaches make sure there is a value set in the field your.
-
Q. Do my players need a subscription to use the VTT?
- A. No, your players do not need a subscription to play in your scenes. You do need a subscription to create and run a scene.

Q. I'm trying to add a character that one of my players created, but they aren't showing up when I search
- A. If the player just added their character it could take a minute or two for them to show up in the search.
-
Q. I created an adversary and I want to add it to my scene but it isn't showing up in the search.
- A. If you recently created it, wait for a minute or two and it should show up. Additionally, if you marked the private checkbox when you saved your adversary then you will want to check the "Search Only My Adversaries" checkbox when you search from Scene Builder. When this box is not checked, it will only search public adversaries.
-
Q. How do I set my character portrait so that it will show up when I add them to a Scene?
- A. Go to your character sheet and scroll to the bottom. You will see a character portrait input box. Make sure that you paste a URl to an image by right-clicking an image in your browser and copying the image address.
