This PR updates the test.yml workflow for the continuous integration.
It also includes an extension to new OS's (Ubuntu 24.04 and MacOS 14).
Some details are still perfectible:
Once this PR is merged, the other workflows (check.yml, package.yml) will be migrated similarly.
