03. Concept Design
Design a Musical Bot which plays a drum. It should be automated. It must play two music genres. It must switch between the genres in minimum possible time. It needs to be portable, user friendly and not look too crowded. It should be designed and built within three months at an estimated budget of INR 4000. User should be able to change the genres and their speed of playing. The bot shall stop beating the drum by the choice of user.
- Beating the Drum
- Holding the Drum sticks
- The bots ability to play two genres of music.
- Continue to play till the user stops it
- Wireless control to change genres
- The bot can change the tempo.
- Display the current genre being played.
- Display the tempo.
- Drum Playing System
- Indication System
- Control System
In the design 1, the mallets are used to play the drums. The mallet movements are controlled by stepper motor with a stepper motor driver. A spring mechanism is used for the back and forth movement of the mallets. A micro controller is used to control the bot. The tunes played are indicated by LED lights present on the casing. A slider is internally connected to the micro controller to vary the tempo of play. A photoelectric sensor is used to stop the play. A palm detector is used to change the genre.
In the design 2, the drumsticks are used to play the drums. The drumsticks are controlled by DC motor connected to two 2 way relay modules which are in turn connected to the micro controller. The blue tooth module is connected to the micro controller to receive the signals. The indication and control system is on an external device (Ex: App on a smartphone). The app displays the two music genres and also the start and stop buttons. The user can select any one of them and play the desired tune. There is a also a slider in the app to select the desired tempo of play. Finally, the blue tooth sender of the phone connects with the blue tooth receiver module of the bot and hence controls the bot.
In the design 3, the brushes are used to play the drums. The brushes are controlled using METAL servo motor connected to the micro controller. The brushes are held by nut and bolt with the servo motor. The indication system is on an external device. Remote control is used to start and stop the play. An adjustment bar is used to increase or decrease the distance between the two supports. A blue tooth module is used to communicate with the external device.
In the design 4, the two drum rods are held and controlled by two car door lock actuator motor. The two motors are held together in partitions made by three wooden frames. The frames are held together by an external metal form. On the outer side of the metal form, Arduino micro controller is connected with the motors and plastered, while on the other side, a microphone, to change the genre via voice and a speaker to indicate the current genre being played are used. An IR Sensor is used to start and stop playing. A potentiometer is used to control the tempo of play.
