Bot-based backport to release-24.05, triggered by a label in #305127.

(Would really like to have this in 24.05, to make the Lomiri experience more complete.)

Build itself works:

copying path '/nix/store/zi8r4g4l3b6zmr1rf1mcnf3cz07pf6za-ayatana-indicator-sound-24.4.0' from 'https://cache.nixos.org'...

But build of some other indicators & vm tests that involve them (including ayatana-indicator-sound.passthru.tests.vm) fail until #314043 (or a yet-to-be-tagged new glib release) is merged & backported.
