This project aims to gain insight into how well societies measure up to Life's Principles (LPs). LPs are a concept from the field of biomimicry where the solutions that have evolved in organisms are studied, their working principles abstracted from biology and adapted to be applied in sustainable innovation for better products, processes and systems. LPs are principles that recur over various species and can thus be seen as 'best practices' of living nature. They are used as guidelines for creating new solutions and as measure to evaluate designs.
We aim to create a web application that allows users to select a country and explore societal measures that correspond with the diverse LPs, as well as a conceptual total scores of 'creating conditions conducive to life' and, where possible, the development over time. The idea is to see societies' progress not in terms of GDP growth, but their integral sustainability, or better regeneration ability and integration with surrounding ecosystems we depend upon.
This wiki is used to document the decisions regarding application design, measures and data sources linked to each of the LPs.
