Many progress measures have been developed. We list a few traditional an newer ones.

GDP growth

Traditionally societal progress was measured in terms of GDP: a growing economy allowed for the creation of improved living conditions. A big limitation of this metric is the lack of insight into what the impact is on the environment that we depend upon, while businesses pursue profits.
