dvmdostem is a "process based bio-geo-chemical terrestrial ecosytem model".
It operates on spatially explicit grid cells or pixels and can advance each
grid cell or pixel through a variety of processes and time-steps.

This is not totally accurate (9/25/2015). At this time, the design for fire (a type of disturbance) makes it less of a landscape-level process, and more of a grid cell-level process.
