Human beings are so made that the ones who do the crushing feel nothing: it is the person crushed who feels what is happening. Unless one has placed oneself on the side of the oppressed, to feel with them, one cannot understand.
Simone Weil
Because the upstream repo seems to have encoded structural violence mechanisms that we aim to fix here.
@mariha turned out to be not compatible with Karrot (upstream repo) team's culture. Despite the Code of Conduct declares differently, it looks like there exist a power (abusive!) structure and a culture of emotion avoidance/dismissal which is probably a byproduct of similar structures. They've been together observed to result in otherwise unseen emotional outbursts and withdrawals. It seems to be a structural violence mechanism that has been also encoded in Karrot software - under systemic consensus based Conflicts Resolution feature. It is worth trying to address the issue - as a remedy for the harms experienced personally and for the sake of the group(s) using (forked) Karrot software.
We believe culture follows structure. We aspire to create a scaffold for inclusive communities, which are a safe space for everyone, not only the most powerful ones. Communities, where people can belong: where membership is based on clear and objective criteria and not subjective to affinity biases.
We plan to do it by restoring 'conflicts' their proper function in the communities, so that their resolution is a positive experience of bringing back balance and creating new better order (fairer, more equitable, allowing for better participation) in the world of the community where it occurred - rather then being a tool of oppression used by the most powerful ones to strengthen their position even more. We believe good conflicts' resolutions (1) seek to acknowledge and compensate any harms that have happened for all the parties involved in them and (2) may result in redesigning the rules to prevent similar situations from happening again. This way, conflicts are something constructive and to be looked forward to rather then to be avoided.
Note: we are in the process of moving away from the upstream repo, you will still find references to it everywhere!
Karrot is a free and open-source tool for grassroots initiatives and groups of people that want to coordinate face-to-face activities on a local, autonomous and voluntary basis.
It is designed in ways to enable community-building and support a more transparent, democratic and participatory governance of your group.
This is the frontend repository, i.e. the browser-side software that powers karrot.community. Have a look at our server-side code at karrot-backend, too!

The foodsaving worldwide team provides additional resources to build up foodsaving, e.g. an infopage on foodsaving.world, where all the intel is gathered.
Our current development goals are prioritized and written down in our elaborate roadmap.
