Project team round

Here we discuss topics that need broader attention, for example questions that came up but are outside a single project's scope, larger planned changes/PRs that affect all teams or pending work that is blocked by external factors.

1. Models / NESTML
   • tidying up project board (see in depth discussion)
2. PyNEST
   • #1803 pynest installation help wanted
3. Kernel
   • refactoring of module system going on
4. Installation
   • nothing major to report
   • looking into pynest installation issues
5. Infrastructure
   • critical issues with travis builds:
     • updated to Python 3.9, Cython fails
     • need to identify interpreters and libraries automatically
     • no solid solution so far, only coarse workaround
   • MacOS builds will need a paid plan
   • awaiting response from Travis team
   • look into artifact uploading end of the week
6. Documentation
   • new description of 2-neuron example
   • improved co-location of synapses
   • pynest GetStatus() vs. get() documentation
   • discussion of NEST-Server and NEST Simulation Guide coming up
7. EBRAINS
   • no major updates

9. (Feature) Automated Testing
   • pynest testing is being refactored
10. (Feature) Extension Module System
    • PR for refactoring of ConnGenModule for ConnBuilder in progress
    • almost ready to refactor the API of the module system

In-depth discussion

• issue #1173 can be closed in the light of NESTML approaching the problem on a much more fundamental level anyway.
• #1516 should be split, since it is too broad and very susceptible to feature-creep
