Requirement gathering process

Research and interview have been done on the movie apps that are currently in the market.

Movies by Flixster, with Rotten Tomatoes

Positive:

• Super convenient having kids on the go and watching movies
• Excellent app for quick reference for movies
• It's the best movie info app I've found on the iPhone to date
• Great and very useful app for movie fans
• I use this app to check reviews and viewing times
• This IS the ideal app for movie buffs
• We use this every date night because we never plan ahead
• This app has been a real time saver
• Accurate and convenient movie finder app
• It is a great app for movie lovers like me

Negative:

• Customer Service disregards repeated email attempts to contact
• Constant problems with downloads and no real tech support
• They delivered my Harry potter collection incomplete and won't fix it
• Keeps saying licensing error and will not play back
• Still requires internet connection even though supposedly not required
• App won't allow air play on Apple TV anymore
• I understand we all want to make money with ads
• The problem is not my data/ wifi connection
• In the span of attempting to check a single movie listing
• Keeps trying to force me to post to Facebook and Google+

Movie Finder by Metacritic

Positive:

No data available.

Negative:

• I can't find any movies not in theaters now
• And the map feature does not function properly
• So almost no movies show in search results
• The search engine is broken and won't find older movies

IMDb Movies & TV

Positive:

• It's a fantastic resource for entertainment lovers
• Always up to date and I can always find what I need
• Having it on my iPhone and iPad makes it super convenient
• Interesting facts about the film & the actors enhance the enjoyment
• I use this all the time to keep track of movies coming up
• An easy go-to app for movie fans and professionals
• THE must have app for movie and tv lovers
• This app is great it has lots of interesting information
• Awesome source of movie trivia and general knowledge
• This has got to be the best app for movie goers

Negative:

• Terrible - Bring back NEWS section when looking at specific movies
• MISSING DARK BACKGROUND on iPhone
• Please IMDb downgrade to the original Video Player
• No search results - just sits and spins
• The search function has stopped working since the update
• Why can't I search for featured news articles
• IMDB has been posting regular news stories unrelated to entertainment
• Or even why my news feed doesn't display anything current FIRST
• Crashes when going back to home screen after a search

Movies by Moviefone

Positive:

• This is convenient and essential for movie buffs like me
• Great resource & time saver
• It's a must have for any movie lover
• The best movie finder app around
• The perfect little movie app for movie goers
• Want FREE iTunes gift cards
• Best movie review app
• I'm a big movie fan and I have the reviews
• Simplifies movie selection and where best to view movie
• Convenient place to find time/locations as well as watch trailers

Negative:

• Loved this app until the news section stopped working
• Address search function not working
• It's a nice app until I need to purchase tickets
• But no room on the home screen for this version
• Can't read news section iOS 8
• Search theatre near me function is horrible

By studying the relevant movie apps and their advantages/disadvantages, together with our initial starting point of building a customised recommendation movie app, we are able to come up with a series of software requirements in building the app.
