Adding a person to an IDI Project
The Integrated Data Infrastructure (IDI) is a large research database containing microdata about people and households from various agencies and surveys. The SIA uses the IDI to do the bulk of their analysis. New team members must apply to get access to the IDI. This page explains how to add a new team member to an IDI project.
First decide what access level the new employee needs to have. Generally M&I members will need type 1 access while those in the wider SIA team such as policy analysts would have type 2 access.
- Fully approved researcher with access to the datalab, an account for a virtual machine, and has completed confidentiality training/document signing,
- Fully approved researcher with access to the datalab, NO account for a virtual machine, and has completed confidentiality training/document signing,
- Phase 1 approved viewer, NO access to datalab, NO account for a virtual machine, HAS NOT completed confidentiality training/document signing, can ONLY see phase one released outputs.
Once you have decided on the access level you can follow these instructions.
- Go to the IDI webpage.
- Download Application to vary an existing microdata project in the Stats NZ Data Lab (Word, 8 pages, 66kB).
- Populate part 1 and part 2 of the form. Part 2 information (cv, references, academic transcript and publications) should be passed on by the recruitment agency.
- Applying for IDI access prior to the new employee starting means that they are more likely to have IDI access the day they start.
- Note if you are organising type 2 access then put a note in Section 2.1 saying 'Fully approved researcher with access to the datalab, NO account for a virtual machine, and will complete confidentiality training/document signing'.
- Send form and attachments to access2microdata@stats.govt.nz
- Once approved, liaise with Stats NZ to sort out confidentiality training if needed.
- Follow up if access is not granted within 10 working days.
