- Fine Needle File - to round the corners of the mounting slots, and of the LEDs
- Black Acrylic Marker - to blacken various edges of the main board and of the face plate. (It needs to be an acrylic black marker - a normal black marker will not be black enough)
These are the recommended sequence of steps in order of how you should build it.
Use the Fine Needle File on the CN10 connector edges to chamfer the top and bottom edges:
- CPLD (take special note of where pin 1 should be)
- FFC connector
- SMD resistors
- SMD caps
- Push buttons
- Pi header
- JP1 jumper
- Serial Port header
Note: for bulk quantity builds you will want a jig to help with the build.
- Use the Fine Needle File on the mounting slot corners so they are slightly rounded - enough to fit in to the mount slot holes of the face plate.
- Use the Acrylic Black Marker on the mount slot edges. (So they appear black on the front of the face plate).
- Use the Acrylic Black Marker on outer edge of the face plate.
- Attach the face plate to the main board, making sure it is perpendicular to the main board.
- Where the mounting slot edges meet the mount slot holes, there are solder pads that are soldered together to secure the two boards together.
- Use the Fine Needle File on the LED corners so they are slightly rounded - enough to fit in to the LED holes of the face plate.
- Prepare and install the LEDs
- Solder the LED legs. It is easier from the top of the board
- Snip off the excess legs from the underside of the board.
- FFC Connector
- Solder the pins strip first. You should use a breadboard to help keep the pins perpendicular to the board.
- Solder the DIP socket(s), making sure the notch is in same direction as on the silk screen.
