Helping, Entry Points for Contributing

Note for contributors to this list: ideally all entry points should reference a Git issue or other form of guidance

The following is a list of tasks that are relatively self-contained, high priority, and would serve as good entry points into the Perseus ecosystem, for students, new hires, interested hobbyists, or longtime employees with extra time on their hands.

If you develop any scripts or programs as part of these tasks, please add them to this repo!!!!!!

###For people with Ancient Latin/Greek knowledge and little to no scripting ability:

• Figuring out the logic for a programmatic solution to the Ancient Greek UTF-8 errors

• Identification of canonical citation schemes for texts cited by page number

###For people with scripting ability and little to no knowledge of Ancient Latin/Greek:

• XSLT for EpiDoc flavor

• Converting legacy <revisionDesc> elements.

• Checking comments and `<revisionDesc elements against P4 versions

• Write UI for testing scripts and tracking files

• Integrate testing scripts and tracking files with Git

• Refine speaker to said XSLT

###For people with Ancient Latin/Greek knowledge and some scripting ability:

• Work on <refsDecls>

• Convert notes in Greek Betacode to UTF-8, standardizing betacode first if necessary

• Check for missing partial secondary sources in P4 CVS repo, name them, and migrate them

###For people with little to no Ancient Latin/Greek knowledge and little to no scripting ability:

• Ask an editor what manual markup tasks they have available

###For people with knowledge of library procedures and metadata:

• Assign URNs to the current list of URN-less entries in the P4 to P5 spreadsheet, then migrate those texts to Github under their new URNs
